When your fleet is jhust hanging around after youve made it or after its returned from mission or whatever; do they help in your defense? OR are they just like stationary planes in an airfield? Like sitting ducks?

They are always in orbit and will aid in defense... Which also means that they WILL be destroyed if dealt enough damage...
